Collaboration

Recently I was asked a series of thought-provoking questions by a colleague/friend who is working on her master's program. These are worth sharing with new teachers because quite a few of them make very nice interview questions, and we all know how important it is to be on top of your game in the teaching job interview! By no means are my answers extensive, they are just a jumping off point into discussion, I hope!

What is your definition of collaboration?

Collaboration is a vital part of our work as educators. We cannot isolate ourselves in this profession; to do so would rob our teaching of rich insights. Collaboration can be as simple as discussing strategies and best practices over the lunch table, ad hoc committees formed for projects within the school, or team teaching situations. Collaboration in 2011 can involve technology so that we can collaborate with colleagues all over the world via the internet.
What are your thoughts on collaboration?  What are important speaking points to include if asked this question in an interview?
