Songs You Already Know: "The Haunted House"

(Almost) everyone loves to get into the Halloween spirit when you work in an elementary school! By using new words with songs that we already know, we have an activity that reinforces reading skills and singing skills.

Tune: (the song you already know): "The Wheels on the Bus"

Holiday Song: "The Haunted House"

The pictures shown are from our Holiday Flip Book.

The ghost in the house says "Boo, Boo, Boo!"

"Boo, Boo, Boo!"
"Boo, Boo, Boo!"

The ghost in the house says "Eeek, eek, eek!"

All night long.
The stairs in the house go "Creak, Creak, Creak!"

Creak, Creak, Creak!
Creak, Creak, Creak!

The stairs in the house go "Creak, Creak, Creak!"

All night long.

The cat in the house says "Meow, Meow, Meow!"

Meow, Meow, Meow!"

Meow, Meow, Meow!"

The cat in the house says "Meow, Meow, Meow!"

All night long.

The mouse in the house says "Squeak, Squeak, Squeak!"

Squeak, Squeak, Squeak!"

Squeak, Squeak, Squeak!"

The mouse in the house says "Squeak, Squeak, Squeak!"

All night long.

The Trick-or-Treaters say "Eek, Eek, Eek!"

Eek, Eek, Eek!
Eek, Eek, Eek!

The Trick-or-Treaters say "Eek, Eek, Eek!"

All night long.
  • To differentiate instruction for this song, include a poster size of visual aids for each verse, and a 8.5 by 11 inch copy for those students who would struggle with a Flip Book.

Here are the elements of the song that make it an almost instant success every time:
  • familiar tune
  • repetitive lyrics
  • easy to follow visuals
  • Halloween is a subject that most children really look forward to!
  • Everyone has fun imitating the different vocal timbres of the ghost, cat, stairs, mouse, and trick-or-treaters!
